In 1699, a parcel of 2,700 acres of land was granted to Clement Plumsted.  Located in central New Jersey, Plumsted Township was incoroporated in 1845.  With 40 acres of farmlands, recreational parks and lakefront parks, Plumsted is committed to preserving its rural character. 

New Egypt was once two separate settlements, Snuff Mill and Newport.  New Egypt was incorporated along with several miles surrounding in honor of Clement Plumsted.  New Egypt has several attractions besides horse farms and farm land including the Laurita Winery, New Egypt Speedway and a flea market.
