Upper Freehold was formed from portions of Freehold Township in 1731 and was formally incorporated in 1793. Portions of Upper Freehold were used to form Millstone Township, Jackson Township and Allentown. There are several small unincorporated communities within the township. Cream Ridge is one of those communities.
Over 10,000 acres of farmland has been preserved in Upper Freehold for farms and other open space uses. Besides horse farms, Upper Freehold is also home to Historic Walnford, Tk’s Ice Cream, Cream Ridge Winery and Clayton Park which are all located in Cream Ridge.
