Upper Freehold Township was formed from portions of Freehold Township and was formally incorporated in 1793. There are several small, unincorporated communities within the township; Cream Ridge is one of those communities. Over 10,000 acres of farmland has been preserved in Upper Freehold for farms and other open space uses. Besides horse farms, Cream Ridge is also home to historic Walnford, Cream Ridge Golf Course, Cream Ridge Winery, Clayton Park and parts of the Union Transportation Trail.
